Created under the auspices of Abridged, Inc - a company founded by Anjali Yang, a Web3 entrepreneur and collaborator of major DAOs MolochDAO and MetaCartel - Collab.Land was designed to make the experience of creating DAOs and managing tokenomics simple and safe for both users and moderators.

What Is Token-Gating

Whether the community is gathered online or in person, access beyond the gate is granted based on the number and/or type of tokens a person is holding in their connected crypto wallet.

Almost any experience, membership, or content that can be locked behind an account, subscription, or Web2 key can be locked down with fungible or non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Now, communities are not limited to one social platform and members can interact wherever they feel more comfortable.

Each of the NFT holders will be able to access any of these community portals as long as they have tokens.

Token Gating is based on Token Gating Rules (TGRs). These are rules that determine which roles will be assigned to a participant based on token-related criteria defined by the community administrator.

Types of Token Gating Rules

Balance-based TGRs check the amount of a particular token in the user's wallet. If the user has more tokens than the lower limit and less than the upper limit (the upper limit is optional), the role will be granted. This allows roles to be created based on the number of specific tokens a user owns.

This type of TGR is typically used by groups built on fungible tokens such as ERC20.

Attribute-based TGRs verify the existence of individual tokens that possess one or more “attributes” as part of their metadata specified by the administrator. This type of TGR is used to create roles based on ownership of certain types of NFTs in a collection.

For example, if an administrator wants to create a role for BAYC members who own NFT Apes with certain metadata attributes (blue fur), they can use an attribute-based TGR to check for the presence of a blue fur monkey in the member's wallet. Attribute-based TGRs are only used for tokens containing metadata-NFTs, such as tokens ERC721 and ERC1155.

How works Collab.Land

Since token gating runs on a public blockchain, it uses your crypto wallet's access key to read the data in your wallet. If the right fungible or non-fungible token is in your wallet, you are granted access, otherwise, access is denied.

Collab.Land makes this verification process easy for communities on Discord or Telegram.

In its simplest form, Collab.Land is a bot that a potential moderator of a Discord or Telegram-based crypto community can download as an add-on. It offers a number of commands regarding group dynamics, public addresses, and token minting.

Commands regulate things like how many tokens are issued, what types of tokens are issued, whether the chat will be open to friends only or to the general public, as well as more complex variables related to the organizational structure of a particular DAO: for example, how many votes a token gives, or how many tokens entitle a particular role in the DAO, or even what blockchain the DAO (or general crypto-chat) will run on.

Trustless smart accounts will soon be launched for activating members of Collab.Land communities. This will allow members to initiate onchain transactions in chat.

Collab.Land's community management service is available for developers to integrate into other platforms and websites via the API/SDK.

Command Center

Command Center (CC) is a powerful platform that provides administrators with the tools they need to effectively manage the Collab.Land bot and create a token-gating community in Discord. CC is designed to customize the bot, create token-gating rules (TGRs), and manage community roles.

Marketplace

The Marketplace is an extension of the Command Center, offering a wide range of mini-applications and add-ons developed by third-party teams and Collab.Land's own in-house.

Community admins can customize their Collab.Land bot by installing one-click mini-apps from the Marketplace with a reach of 50K+ communities.

The main mini-apps are summarized belowю

Role Composition

You can create complex role assignments that take into account multiple factors using the Role Composition miniapp.

For example, access to a role requires possession of both a fungible and a non-fungible token. In addition, you can use multiple TGRs or manually assigned roles to create the final composite role. For example, you can require a participant to hold NFTs from different collections and/or tokens on different blockchains.

The Role Composition feature within the Composable Roles app allows you to assign a single role to members based on the combination of other roles they hold. This feature enables the use of AND/OR logic to combine Token Gating Requirements (TGRs) or manually assigned Discord roles.

Guest Pass

Once you select the desired guest pass, the role assignment process will begin automatically. The participant will receive the role(s) you specified when you created the guest pass, and the guest pass will be valid for the duration you set when you configured the guest pass.

After the guest pass expires, the participant will automatically lose their assigned roles.

If the guest pass is bound to a TGR, the participant does not need to have a base token and the role will be assigned as long as the guest pass is valid.

POAP

With POAP Miniapp, you can easily distribute POAP to your Discord community members using slash commands.

A POAP or Proof of Attendance Protocol refers to non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that prove a person has attended a certain event. Basically, these are badges that are supported by a cryptographic record and are sent to a person's wallet as a reward for participating in certain activities.
